Course Description

Topics include: vectors, curves, and surfaces in space, functions of several variables, partial derivatives, multiple integrals, vector integral calculus, line and surface integrals.

Textbook

“Calculus” by James Stewart, 7th Edition, chapters 12-16 (these chapters are available in the standalone volume “Multivariable Calculus” by James Stewart, 7th Edition).

Grading Scheme

Grades will be computed as follows:

Exams (3): 50%
Final Exam: 40%
Homework: 10%

Letter grades will be based on a general 10-point scale, where 90-100 guarantees a grade in the A range, 80-89 B range, 70-79 C range, 60-69 D range, with plus or minus grades assigned as appropriate.

Homework

Homework will be assigned every class in lecture and posted on the course website. Assignments are due the following Wednesday at the start of lecture.

Roughly half of the homework score will be for completeness (making a reasonable attempt at all the problems). The other half will be given for a chosen few graded problems. Late homeworks will not be accepted. The lowest two weekly homework scores will be dropped.

Course Policies

Attendance will not be taken, but is expected. If you miss a class, you are responsible for any announcement made, any material covered, and any additional topic introduced during the class. Off±ce hours will not be used for this purpose.

Make-up tests will only be given in exceptional circumstances (excused absences as deØned by the University catalog). In such cases, you must provide a valid reason for your absence and must normally be given in advance.
